Sometimes you don't need any words

street steez

Street style and that type of fashion blogging is a territory undoubtedly owned by Yvan Rodic Facehunter and Scott Schumann The Sartorialist.

There seems to be though a new contender to the throne popping up everyday.

Sometimes when I see the people photographed I wonder what are they like as a person, do they have anything interesting to contribute or do they wake up at 5am to curate there look before going to the shops to buy milk.

So to get a feel for real style I guess you need to see how people walk and if they're truly comfortable in what there wearing and that's exactly what Trendland does taking street style pics to the next inevitable level, videoblogging.

Charisma

.................it's something every great frontman should have, it separates the pub bands from the stadium rockers.

David Bowie had that otherworldly ecelctic charm and Liam Gallagher had that badboy swagger.

The beats the lyrics and vocal skill are all important but without charisma you can never get hooked.

Brandon Welchez oozes hipster cool and charisma, I saw him in Glasgow performing with his band  Crocodiles and was totally enraptured. They've been around for a little while as Crocodiles and were previously called 'The plot to blow up Eiffel the tower'.

Check out some of their tunes here and remember where you heard them as there gona be big.

Caught my eye

Should weed be legal?

One thing which I hope will differentiate darealzeitgeist from the rest of the blogosphere is news and serious opinions as well as more frivolous art & fashion.

I find intelligent debate extremely captivating, it's amazing how a skew off the facts can almost totally influence the  accepted opinion on something.

The Times demonstrated this with a classic advert to illustrate their impartial reporting and a recent Economist campaign used a similar concept.

I recently read an article which made me rethink my opinion on wether weed should be legalised.

Consider some of the facts. Alcohol kills 40,000 people a year, affects many more and keeps the police busy 24/7.

Let's not even talk about cigarettes.

So why are they still both legal? There's a simple answer: cash money.

The modern capitalist world probably couldn't cope with the removal of these, pubs would be useless and ugly people would no longer get laid.

A major reason it's unlikely weed won't be legalised is politicians pandering to the unliberal Daily Mail brigade.  They'd never have it. Even if the PM believed it to be the right decision would he risk losing power to make it happen.

Policing the drug problem has never really stopped it and is arguably for lower class drugs like weed a massive waste of taxpayer money, besides who ever got high and started a fight. Prohibition practically made Al Capone, by keeping weed illegal w'ere just giving a source of income to gangsters.

If for no other reason than the cash money we should legalise weed. It could be just what the world economy needs. In America alone a Harvard study shows the legalisation of weed would raise $7bn and save $13bn on wasted police and prison time.

In November there'll be a referendum on the legalisation and taxation of weed in California. It'll be interesting to see how this affects the wider world.

How do you feel about weed now?

Real G's wear white tees

Every man and his dog sells and designs T-shirts in London!

Those who don't are probably aspiring models or actors. Whilst I love nothing better than the desire to better ones self it can get incredibly dull.

It's pretty damn cool seeing a T-shirt brand with great quality stuff that really resonates and stands out from the crowd.

I'm excited about a couple of brands at the moment. T-shirt party being one of them. They produce urban inspired white tees with a music video to go with each one. It's not revolutionary but it is simple and effective.

I also really love too much posse  these boys really know an iconic image when they see one.

I've got a couple on order so will enlighten you with pics once I have them.

Greed is good

By my calculations Wall Street 2 should be out in the next couple of weeks.

To keep your appetite wet here’s a quote you can't fail to like.

Greed, for lack of a better word, is good.

Greed is right.

Greed works.

Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.

Greed, in all of its forms, greed for life , for money, for love, knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind.

And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA.

Food glorious Food

It sustains and is also the way to a mans heart.

With young people much more conscious of what they eat but also more adventurous than their forefathers there's a growing importance on food.

It can be seen in many ways and for me one of the coolest is supper clubs and pop up restaurants.

There's a few off these popping up in Dalston shacklewell nights seems pretty secretive but the menu seems more than worth it.  I've also been meaning to check out the sit down affair . Stay tuned for a review soon!!!!

girs girls girls

Perhaps I'm more a product of my genetics than I'd like to think because when I ever I see a women with a full figure I go crazy.

I really don't get it when my friends bang on about size zeros.

A woman who illustrates the voluptuous figure more than any other is Christina Hendricks.

I'd probably watch Mad Men if it was awful just to see her, thankfully it's brilliant.

The new Government Equalities minister declared her to be the epitome of the perfect healthy UK woman, who said the Tories’ don't know what their talking about.

ze germans aren't coming

I decided to start a little blog as a creative outlet, I love to write. In truth I don't think it'll be any good.

I think it'll be fucking great.

The Zeitgeist literally translates to the spirit of the times and refers to a group with a collective cultural and intellectual outlook.

Stay tuned for posts on a humongous range of subjects covering advertising, fashion, culture, girls, london, film, travel, music, history, literature, partying, art, streetstyle, food, entertainment, trends, technology and business.

Think Dazed and Confused meets GQ meets ATCN, ok maybe I'm having delusions of grandeur but you get the picture.

The type of stuff the Zeitgest might be into.

A dream within a dream within a dream

I recently went to see the much lauded Inception which pretty much everyone their mother her cousin and their goldfish is talking about.

My film buff friends loved it and so do the great unwashed but I have to admit even as a sci fi geek I found it slightly hard to follow.

Whilst it was a truly original and beautiful concept with matching cinematography it could of been just that bit better if it was slightly less convoluted. Still its power at the box office shows no sign of abating so what do I know.

If like me your still intrigued and want to know all about totems etc check out this inception explained guided here http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Inception-Explained-Unraveling-The-Dream-Within-The-Dream-19615.html

the tube

As some of you may know I work in advertising or more strictly speaking marketing services. It's a surprisingly complex field with media more fragmented than ever before and attention spans incredibly short, the average person (just who is that) is bombarded by over 3,000 marketing/sales messages a day.
What you really need when trying to engage with your audience is cut through. My favourite phrase for this is simple but effective. You don't necessarily have to reinvent the wheel just be interesting and relevant.

A You Tube page I saw the other day did just that. Check it out http://www.youtube.com/expendables

style

I love style, good style that is, the type you come across when someone tried a little bit but not all that much.

I'd say that's the type of style you see on the sartorialist where people are just really comfortable in what their wearing.
Living in East London you unfortunately see people who take it that bit too far, people who've really over thought their look, some call them Hoxton heroes, more recently they've been called shitclowns.

A friend introduced me to this site which basically collects all the Nathan barley trendy types and takes the rip. check it out http://shitclown.com/

who dat

Next dude you need to watch out for on the hip hop scene if you don't already know is the Roc's new golden boy J. Cole. I personally rate this guy more than Drake he just seems more real he's got that edge, tight lyrics and the beats to match. Check him out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bufwGKV-9Yw
